OUR

STORY

Few times a year – within the framework of the Young Choreographers Platform (YCP) – we give the possibility for young and progressive choreographers to work with the dancers of our company.

Meeting of high professionalism and the youth’s unbroken imagination, we have a great opportunity to make something fancy, new and uncommon year by year. We like courage – even if not every experiment is a success story – and we all can learn a lot from this project.

In previous years

YCP 2020 – Budapest, Hungary

In 2013, CEDT began to develop a new strategy to establish cooperation with the youngest generation of dancers and choreographers, providing further perspectives in the possible, common work. The program, based on the successes of last years, proved the necessity of our initiative, as seventeen young choreographers have been introduced so far (Bernadett Jobbágy, Milán Újvári, Gabriella Pálfi, Zoltán Grecsó, Dorottya Ujszászi, Kinga Varga, Júlia Gyulai, Gábor Halász, Judit Szamosi, Lajos Péteros, Anikó Kiss, Beatrx Simkó, Lajos Péter Túri, Kristóf Samu, Krisztina Szarvas, Dávid Mikó, Gyula Cserepes, Eva Urbanova), many of whom were also invited to work independently with CEDT. Beatrix Simkó’s demonstration was nominated for the Rudolf Lábán Award in 2017.

Based on the experience of successful introductions, the Central European Dance Theater announces “YCP 2020” Young Choreographers’ Platform again this year.

Since 2019, two chosen applicants have the opportunity to work within the framework of the Sissi Autumn Dance Week, meanwhile CEDT provides it’s compagny and rehearsal venues for the choreographers where they can work with the dancers for a week under professional mentoring, with the available theatrical apparatus and with our theater technician. With the help of all these, at the end of the week, we will hold a public demonstration of the work that has been done, including a visual documentation which can serve as a reference for future applications by young creators. In addition, before the one-week rehearsal, we also provide an other opportunity to get to be more prepared for the demonstration with training sessions for dancers, during which the performers will be introduced to the young choreographers' own world of movement and while the creators get to know the program's dance artists.
